UAW leadership holds off on new strikes as Big Three talks continue

by

At this time, the leadership of the United Auto Workers (UAW) has not authorized or ordered any new strikes as negotiations with the Big Three automakers (Ford, GM, and Fiat Chrysler) continue. Despite the ongoing stalemate, the UAW has committed to remain focused on its bargaining goals and hopes for resolution with the automakers. In many cases, the current talks are focused on securing improved job security and wages for UAW members who have already suffered significant losses during the pandemic-related economic downturn. The UAW’s primary concerns include the automakers’ plans to reduce production and resulting job losses, as well as the need for a national health care plan for members. Additionally, the UAW is also seeking a full return to in-person work as soon as possible, a shift in the Plans for Profit system, and the preservation of retiree pensions and health care benefits.
