Gavin Newsom’s plan for replacing Dianne Feinstein is ‘insulting’ to Black women, California Dem says

by

California Assemblymember Sydney Kamlager (D-Los Angeles) has criticized California governor Gavin Newsom’s plan to replace Senator Dianne Feinstein for not considering any Black women as potential replacements. Kamlager stated, “For those of us who represent underrepresented district and underrepresented parts of this state, California should be at the forefront of breaking the glass ceiling for black women in politics. To not even include any of us in the conversation is insulting, unacceptable, and sends the wrong message about who matters in California.”

Kamlager is calling for Newsom to include qualified Black women as potential contenders for Feinstein’s seat, citing the success of women like Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and Georgia’s two newly elected Senators, Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff. Kamlager said, “Black women are leaders…[and] have been at the forefront of one of the most groundbreaking elections in American history and have fought for social justice and economic empowerment in our communities for decades. We must seize this opportunity to continue to highlight the importance of diverse representation in all levels of government.”
