Israel was reportedly omitted from online maps in China as the country joined the battle between Hamas and Israel, with both countries trading airstrikes across the Gaza Strip in May 2021. According to reports, China-based mapping services were found to have excluded the country from their maps. In addition, some social media platforms reportedly replaced the country’s name with “Palestine.” The removal of Israel from the Chinese online maps was seen as a way of backing Hamas in the conflict.
