Social Security payments will not be impacted by the government shutdown. Benefit payments will continue to be sent out as scheduled. Medicare services, however, may be impacted if the shutdown continues for a long time. Other benefits, such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) may be suspended or delayed if the shutdown continues.
