President Donald Trump recently released a series of “MugShot” non-fungible tokens (NFTs) commemorating his previous arrests. The NFTs feature 4 of Trump’s low-resolution mugshots from arrests in the 1980s. The shots depict Trump arrested for disorderly behavior after a central park brawl, charges of disorderly conduct during a New Jersey Casino protest and a DUI charge in Florida. Trump has framed a portion of the NFT as a way to “celebrate the rich tapestry of life experiences that shape us all.” Experts note that while NFTs are largely used as a way to capitalize on artwork and appreciate cultural artifacts, Trump’s unique concept for using the technology to promote his own personal history is an unprecedented move.
