In response to the Canadian Conservative Party’s refusal to back Bill C-376, which would expand the country’s support for Ukraine, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has blamed “right-wing, American MAGA” groups for swaying their vote.
Trudeau said in a statement that although Canada is a proud, independent nation, “we have seen in recent weeks how outside special interests try to influence our decisions. They come from all over the world, but most notably from the United States.”
“What we are seeing from this particular American MAGA group is another example of the same kind of extreme, right-wing, American-interest agenda that tried and failed to prevent Canadians from making our own decisions about our future,” Trudeau continued.
The Prime Minister then went on to point out that, while the Conservatives voted against expanding Canadian support for Ukraine, the rest of the Canadian parliament, representing the New Democratic Party, the Bloc Quebecois, and several Independent MPs, all voted in favour.
“Canada will remain steadfast in our support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, in our obligation to ensure peace and stability in the region, and our commitment to fighting against Russian aggression and interference,” Trudeau said.
