Secretary of State Mike Pompeo slammed the Biden administration officials who signed a dissent letter on Israel’s response to Hamas’ rocket attacks last week, saying their “moral compass is broken.”
“At a time when Israeli civilians were under attack by Hamas, nearly two dozen State Department officials chose to express their disagreement with U.S. policy by signing a public letter. This has nothing to do with policy disagreement or expressing an alternative viewpoint — it was an attempt to put their thumb on the scales of U.S. foreign policy,” Pompeo said in a statement.
He also said such actions are “divisive and counter-productive” and warned that officials who undermine U.S. policy will no longer be tolerated.
“There is a difference between expressing a disagreement privately and doing so publicly and in a way that undermines U.S. foreign policy. I strongly and unambiguously condemn the dissent letter sent by a group of employees of the Department that did just that,” Pompeo said. “Their moral compass is broken. They should not be in public service.”
