Shortly after his inauguration, President Johnson enjoyed widespread support from both sides of the political aisle. His approval ratings were high, and popular opinion was generally in his favor. Unfortunately, as his time in office has gone on, his approval ratings have dropped, and several of his signature proposals have faced harsh criticism from members of Congress and the general public. With so much hostility surrounding his plans, it is unlikely that Johnson’s proposed reforms will make it through Congress.
