Authorities have continued the arrests of individuals involved in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, with a fifth individual being charged in connection with the attack on U.S. Capitol Police Officer Daniel S. Fanone. Jarrod W. Wittstroff, a 33-year-old from Kansas, was charged with three federal offenses on Saturday – obstruction of justice, assault on a federal officer and engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds.
Wittstroff was seen in videos posted to social media and mentioned in the criminal complaint that argues he used a flagpole to push Fanone out of a door. The complaint also claims that Wittstroff blocked the doorway, threatened officers and used bear spray inside the Capitol Rotunda.
The incident involving Fanone was among the most dramatic of the siege, as he was reportedly beaten, tasered and dragged from the building. He was photographed after being freed, draped in a Trump flag and having officers and other protesters clapping and cheering.
Four other individuals have been charged in connection with the attack on Fanone, including Robert Sanford, 55, of Pennsylvania, who is also charged with obstruction and physical violence; Lonnie Coffman, 70, of Alabama, charged with obstruction, physical violence and carrying a gun without a license; Karl Dreslinsky, 32, of Ohio, charged with obstruction and physical violence; and Kenneth Grayson, 55, of Pennsylvania, charged with obstruction and physical violence.
The investigation into the attack on Fanone and other incidents that occurred during the Capitol siege continue as authorities are still looking to identify additional suspects.
