House adopts ‘clean’ stopgap funding bill possibly averting shutdown

by

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a “clean” stopgap funding bill that would keep the government funded through late November, potentially averting a partial government shutdown. The bill, which passed with bipartisan support, would provide funding for the federal government until midday November 21. The Senate will now take up the bill before it can become law.

The “clean” bill passed by the House does not include the provisions sought by President Trump, including funding for his promised wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. Congressional negotiators have been discussing a longer-term spending bill, but so far an agreement has not been reached.

Trump has yet to say whether he will sign the bill. If he does not, the government could partially shut down on October 1.
