Trump lawyers are seeking to launch a wide-ranging investigation into the U.S. government’s handling of 2020 election fraud claims.
The investigation, planned by former Trump White House lawyer and former impeachment attorney David Schoen, would focus on the actions of federal, state, and local agencies in responding to voter fraud allegations and doubts surrounding the 2020 election’s integrity.
Schoen has enlisted several prominent Republican attorneys to help him and has sought access to classified information and other confidential documents from multiple agencies.
The lawyers will investigate why the Trump legal team’s fraud claims were not more thoroughly pursued and how different branches of government made determinations about certification of the 2020 election results.
The Trump legal team is reportedly interested in the roles played by the Department of Justice, FBI, Department of Homeland Security, and Cybersecurity Infrastructure and Security Agency in the 2020 election.
The investigation may also include probes into the actions of states and local election entities that supervised the election process and certified results.
It is unclear if the investigation will be released publicly. However, it is expected to have some impact on future elections if it reveals any troubling issues or practices.
