The Democratic majority in the House of Representatives failed to shield Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib from censure on Thursday following her recent incendiary comments about Israel. The House of Representatives voted relieved by 332-79 in favor of the resolution to condemn Tlaib’s language. 28 Democrats voted with the majority to passed the resolution, while the remaining supported Tlaib.
Democrats had attempted to deflect the criticism of Tlaib and focus it on President Donald Trump, but they ultimately failed.
Overall, House Democrats were eager to move on from the issue and put it behind them to focus their attention on more pressing legislative matters. They also wanted to make it clear that their support for Israel remains strong and that members of Congress should be more careful with their rhetoric.
