Law firm rescinds job offers to Harvard students over Israel letters

by

In July 2020, a London law firm rescinded job offers that had been made to seven Harvard Law School students due to their participation in an open letter. The letter was written by a number of Harvard Law students and faculty members, and sought to encourage Harvard Law School to better publicize and protect the rights of Palestinians. The firm, however, felt that the open letter and its contents were “too politicized.” This prompted them to withdraw their offers of employment. The firm also said that their decision was “consistent with our commitment to the rule of law and objectivity in all matters.” The incident sparked a larger debate about free speech and the consequences of taking a stand on certain issues.
