Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has issued a harsh critique of the Biden Administration’s approach to foreign relations, claiming that the U.S. is engaging in “lecturing” Hungary instead of celebrating their shared democratic values in a speech to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC. Szijjarto took particular issue with American politicians’ criticism of Hungary’s Orban government on human rights issues, accusing the Biden Administration of violating Hungary’s sovereignty. He argued this is counter-productive, claiming it has pushed Hungary closer to Russia and China. Szijjarto also expressed his hope for a return of relations between the U.S. and Hungary to the level of cooperation seen during the Trump Administration.
