McDonald’s is planning to eliminate self-service soda stations at all of its restaurants. The fast-food giant has already implemented the change in some locations and plans to complete removing the beverage sections from all of its stores by mid-2021 as part of its commitment to provide a “Covid Secure” experience. Drive-thru and delivery options remain available for customers ordering soda beverages. McDonald’s made the decision in order to reduce contact between staff and customers. The company is also placing fever-screening cameras at all its locations, while also conducting temperature checks for employees before their shifts and providing face masks to staff. The move follows McDonald’s decision to implement a cashierless, kiosk-style self-service order system to reduce contact between customers and employees during the Covid-19 pandemic.
