On Thursday, Los Angeles police arrested a man who was armed with a handgun and shouting aggressively at Robert F. Kennedy Jr. during an environmental event in Los Angeles.
The man, who has not been identified, was taken into custody without incident and was given a mental health evaluation by crisis intervention officers. He was never charged with any crime and was released.
The event, held at the Union Rescue Mission, was held to talk about Clean Water Action’s initiative to make drinking water safe for Californians. Kennedy, an environmental lawyer, was the keynote speaker.
“The individual never threatened Mr. Kennedy directly, but shouted just outside of the auditorium,” Los Angeles Police Officer Sal Ramirez said. “He was taken into custody in order to ensure the safety of those inside.”
