Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear announced a $386 million investment in high-speed internet infrastructure across the state this week.
The investment is part of the governor’s bipartisan Connect Kentuckians Initiative, which is aimed at expanding access to broadband across the Commonwealth. The project includes building new fiber networks and expanding existing networks to provide broadband access to unserved and underserved areas. The initiative is expected to reach more than 110,000 households and businesses and expand options for quality broadband access.
The project is a partnership between the state of Kentucky, local government entities, and private internet providers. The funding comes in part from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s ReConnect Program.
This is a major investment that will help bridge the digital divide by expanding access to high-speed, reliable internet service in underserved rural areas. It will also create jobs and boosts economic opportunities for people across Kentucky.
