Sen. Chuck Grassley’s (R-Iowa) office is responsible for at least 20 marriages over his more than seven decades of service in the Senate. The senator’s staff has a long history of meet-cutes and marital success.
The office often serves as a “clearinghouse for romance” according to one aide and members of his staff reportedly work to set people up on blind dates — not just for political reasons but for love as well.
Aides attribute the success of the senator’s office to his tight knit culture and family-like atmosphere. “It’s a small enough office that everyone knows each other,” said one aide. “Everyone is there because they believe in and support what Senator Grassley is doing. That shared purpose creates a connection, which makes it easy to take a more personal approach to matchmaking.”
