At least five people were injured in an explosion outside the entrance to a hospital in Gaza on Wednesday evening.
According to initial reports, the cause of the explosion was unclear but Palestinian sources suggested that it may have been caused by an explosive device that was placed at the hospital. The Israeli military have denied any involvement in the incident.
45 people were reportedly injured in the explosion and in the ensuing stampede. The majority of the victims are believed to have suffered from smoke inhalation or shock.
The hospital, al-Wafa Medical Rehabilitation Centre, is a specialized medical facility that provides care for adults with long-term and chronic disabilities.
The extent of the damage caused by the blast is yet to be determined. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the explosion.
The incident has further fuelled tensions in the region, which have been high since the beginning of the conflict between Israel and Hamas eleven days ago.
