Jordan, a 4-term congressman from Ohio, has been making a push to become House speaker in the wake of Nancy Pelosi’s announced retirement. He has been enlisting help from his fellow Republican representatives to convince their colleagues to back him instead of the current House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. Over the weekend, Jordan stepped up his pressure campaign by hosting two events to promote his candidacy. At the events he highlighted his conservative credentials and argued that he is the best choice to oppose the Democratic-controlled House. In addition, he accused McCarthy of being too “establishment” and not aggressive enough in opposing the Democrats and their policies. Jordan’s campaign has been buoyed by President Trump’s endorsement, which may sway some views in Jordan’s favor and help him secure the gavel.
