Rep. Bowman says there must be ‘clear distinction’ between Israel’s citizens, government

by

Rep. Emanuel Cleaver Bowman (D-MO) believes that it is important to be clear and differentiate between the Israeli Government and the citizens of the country when discussing foreign policy issues. In a recent statement, he reiterated the longstanding ties between the United States and Israel, while underscoring the need to separately consider the actions of the country’s government.

“I’ve been to Israel multiple times and I have seen firsthand the love and respect held for Americans in that country. We must not allow the actions of the current Israeli government to cloud our relationship,” said Rep. Cleaver Bowman. “There must be a clear distinction between citizens of Israel, who deserve to be treated with respect, and the actions of the government, which must be critically analyzed.”

The congressman went on to affirm his commitment to a peaceful resolution between the Israeli and Palestinian peoples. He believes that a two-state solution is necessary for lasting peace, and that the United States must continue its efforts to foster open dialogue and constructive diplomacy between allies.

“It is essential that the United States remain engaged in the Middle East peace process and work to ensure continued security and stability in the region,” concluded Rep. Cleaver Bowman. “A lasting peace must be the goal, and it is only through hard work, honest dialogue, and mutual understanding that we can achieve that goal.”
