A decade after one shutdown ended, the House shutdown goes on and on

by

No end to the House shutdown is currently in sight, as the issue remains unresolved and negotiations between the parties continue. The House has been in a state of shutdown since December 2018, when the Democrats were newly elected to the majority and a funding bill could not be agreed upon. The shutdown has continued for almost three years now, and both parties have refused to compromise. This has led to a stalemate in Congress, with neither party willing to budge and the resulting lack of progress in policymaking. Unfortunately, it seems that the only way to end the shutdown would be a new election or the parties reaching a compromise on funding.
